Paying it Forward by Professional Development

For Dan Quinlivan of York, good fortune began by being mentored by high school teachers and coaches who were willing to take time to counsel him about finding purpose in life and never losing hope in achieving it. Through his own series of life events, Quinlivan shaped his own professional development by enhancing the career paths of more than 25,000 professionals.

Established in 1983, Quinlivan & Company, “Corporate Psychologists Maximizing Talent,” has been assisting businesses and corporations in the York and Mid-Atlantic regions with executive assessment and executive coaching needs. But he believes that what he’s actually accomplished in those more than 36 years in business was having the good fortune of learning from over 25,000 teachers who continually taught him something about people, passions and talents. Kevin Smith was one of those teachers.

Smith serves as Executive Vice President, Wealth Management of Smith, Mayer & Liddle, a York-based wealth advisory group of Janney Montgomery Scott LLC. For Smith, starting this wealth advisory practice didn’t come without risk: leaving an established career to create something new.

“Dan’s insights reinforced to me that I was making a wise decision and was the validation I needed to take such a leap of faith. Not only did this decision change my life, but it enabled me to utilize my talents in a manner that ultimately has made a difference in the lives of others as well,” Smith says. “Just as I relied on Dan’s trusted guidance all those years ago, I’m grateful and humbled that I’m now able to reciprocate and share my own insights and expertise in a manner meaningful to him. Dan is an outstanding corporate psychologist and a valued client. He is a wonderful person and friend who I will always look up to with great admiration and respect.”

Quinlivan acknowledges that through helping others, he’s paying it forward for everything his coaches and teachers did to encourage and support him.

“But I am most proud of my marriage to Lisa and the impact we made on our two sons, Brendon and Christian, who have grown up to be fine young men.”

YRK PERSPECTIVES:

How is Quinlivan & Company making its own big impact on small businesses in York?

“Twenty-five thousand people will tell you that I had a huge impact on their family security, employability, funding their children’s education, and much more through my talent development and executive recruiting work. ”
