Where Love Nurtures Growth

Accountability and activity, people caring for one another and trusting in one another. When you are present in this home, you are received into a house that love built and a place where love continues to nurture growth: House of Yoga.

House of Yoga recently celebrated the second anniversary opening of its West Market Street home. This celebration is about the tribe that has faithfully supported its donation-based mission, from the downtown York community and beyond, and the growth of its teachers from four to 17.

“I had people who told me that this donation-based model couldn’t work,” says owner, teacher and founding member Jackie Dahlheimer. “But I believed a member-supported community could thrive. We are a self-sustaining community. Our students and our teachers take responsibility for it, and that’s what being donation-based is about — accountability, the trust and belief in human nature to be good to each other and take care of one another.”

Love binds the tribe together, through movement and meditation, through poses and paying it forward.

“I am often in awe of people’s responses and how they radiate gratitude for something we hope to give to everyone,” says Gabby Graham, studio manager and teacher. “House of Yoga is growing on this faith of our community supporting each other, and I think that’s part of the mission to support, connect and have faith.”

Give what you can. Take what you need. There is always enough. “I started my journey with yoga at a different studio never understanding what words like those could mean,” adds student Sarah. “When I found House of Yoga and Jackie, Jessie, Rita and all of the amazing men and women who teach and practice here, I knew I was home. I have never been treated as a customer, but as a friend, a community member, a fellow seeker on the journey of exploring just how big my heart can get.”
