Courageous, life affirming and life transforming. Evolution Power Yoga inspires individuals to connect with one another and empower one another through their yoga practice. Over the past seven years, people of all ages, cultures and professional backgrounds have collectively built this premier yoga community in York. Today, Evolution continues to lead people into their greatest possibility.
Evolution Founder and Chief Visionary Officer Lisa Taylor recognized great potential for her hometown when she opened Evolution’s York studio in 2011. Her teacher training with renowned yoga practitioner and teacher Baron Baptiste enabled her to witness how a yoga studio could create individual and community transformation. Through Evolution, she endeavored to make an international-quality yoga experience accessible to every member of the York community. That experience is rooted in the practices and techniques of Baptiste yoga: asana, inquiry and meditation.
“This is what we as a community can celebrate: The best is right here,” Taylor says. “We have an amazing yoga culture. It’s rewarding for me to see our students having access to the opportunities and possibilities that I had in my teacher training.”
That impact on community can be witnessed today in Evolution’s teachers and individuals who have gone forward from Evolution to create their own yoga communities and studios.
“The people of York possess deep values: love for their families and pride in their homes and in their lifelong friendships,” Taylor says. “Yoga gives people access to being comfortable enough in themselves. When we get over being afraid, we begin to know what we have to give and how we can give. York has an opportunity to be an example of connectiveness and positivity.”
