Hands On, Minds On. Creative Explorations for Children
Art, yoga, mindfulness and movement. At Artemis – The Art of Living in Red Lion, the youngest members of the community can explore their creative selves through art and AntiGravity® Just Kids aerial fitness.
Founder Donna Deerin Ward explains that Artemis – The Art of Living was created with one mission in mind: helping inspire people to become the best version of themselves in mind, body and spirit. Through children’s programming, Artemis makes hands-on, minds-on learning opportunities possible.
Artistic expressions through movement are made possible in the Artemis yoga studio with AntiGravity® Just Kids aerial fitness classes. The AntiGravity® Fitness Just Kids program teaches children the skills of self-confidence and courage as they climb, flip, spin and swing.
Both Deerin Ward and teacher Barb Riley, 200-hour RYT Yoga Alliance instructors, hold Level 3 AntiGravity® teaching certifications for fundamentals, pilates, aerial yoga, suspension fitness and the Just Kids program.
“Having children experience the connection between mind, body and breath enables them to develop concepts like self-awareness, self-regulation and connections with others and their communities,” Deerin Ward says.
Youth art programming further builds upon the links between art and self-expression. “Sparking creativity not only develops a child’s artistic talents, but it also helps kids develop and express themselves mentally, socially and emotionally,” she says. “Children who feel able to experiment and make mistakes feel free to invent new ways of thinking, which extends well beyond an art class in our sunroom.”
And it’s community connections that she and her husband Chad Ward, owner of The Guitar Spot in Red Lion, are proud to instill in York County’s youth. “When kids learn how to regulate themselves, interact with others and creatively learn to solve problems, they are learning leadership skills that will serve them throughout their lives. Working together, learning together and inspiring each other to be our best is what makes our community and our world such an amazing place.”
