Located on the Carlisle Road between Shiloh and Dover, Stone Mill Home & Garden offers what you need to decorate your home and garden, select unique gifts for others or find something special for yourself. Tucked inside this pre-Revolutionary War–era stone mill, customers can find one-of-a-kind treasures ranging from faux bois planters and eco-friendly greeting cards to garden plants and home decor.
When he’s looking for distinctive pieces for Stone Mill Home & Garden, owner Tad Sinclair says he aims to source items with stories behind them — ones that benefit environmental and social sustainability causes. Fair Trade products, for example, support craftspeople in developing countries who are socially and economically marginalized. “We may be here in York, but I also want to encourage people to think globally,” he says.
While he finds appeal in the modern farmhouse style, Tad says he also likes incorporating little twists to create an experience. “I like to blend styles rather than having everything be matching. I like pulling things from different places to create a personal style, whether it’s for a client or for myself.”
For Tad, the opening of Stone Mill Home & Garden this year was the culmination of a dream to create his own business. Customers continue to provide him with their own stories as well: stories about the stone mill building and stories about the occasions and the people they’re shopping for when browsing the gift selection. “It’s been personally rewarding for me to see how an idea can come to fruition. I’ve really enjoyed the feedback from the community.”
