Entertaining in the Landscape
At the Wyndham Hills, Spring Garden Township, home of Marie-Antoinette (Maria) Rochon, guests gather in a room-like living space in an attractive outdoor setting.
Anyone who knows Rochon knows how much she adores cooking for and entertaining family and friends. She longed to create an attractive backyard environment that was as comfortable and intimate as her home’s interior. To achieve that dream, she turned to Jeff Inch and the artisan designers of Inch’s Landscaping.
Inch and his team transformed Rochon’s bland backyard into a place that functions like an extension of the kitchen and living room inside her home. A TUX slab patio floor creates a sophisticated checkerboard look that simulates classic tiling yet stands up to the harshest outdoor elements. Complete with a Viking professional-grade pizza oven and grill from Bareville Kitchens & Design in Lancaster and a chandelier sourced from Restoration Hardware, the outdoor kitchen with its natural-wood canopy invites guests to assemble around the generously sized granite countertops and watch Rochon go to work preparing her culinary creations.
“We installed some raised-bed planters to draw your eye outside,” Inch says. “We also wanted spaces for some greenery and to break up the hardness of the stone.”
Through the use of TimberTech composite decking, the hot tub area takes on a feel of luxurious splendor, complemented by the sounds of rippling water from a newly constructed water garden within sight and earshot. The addition of an outdoor fire pit further encourages family and friends to linger together outside after sundown.
“It’s like having a whole new kitchen,” Rochon says of her enlivened outdoor entertaining space. “What Jeff and his team promised is what they delivered. They respected the natural materials they used yet kept everything feeling very comfortable.”
Rethinking your backyard landscape? Think about adding some stone — it contributes a natural, sustainable, durable and maintenance-free aesthetic you can enjoy for years to come.
