Partners in collaboration, leaders in design and management, innovators in creative engineering solutions. For 16 years, Paragon Engineering Services Inc. of York has worked with architects, business owners, contractors and engineering firms throughout Pennsylvania and Maryland to provide sensible, creative solutions for their building project needs, including electrical, mechanical and plumbing services.

Guidance from experienced staff — offering advice and mentorship to developing staff — creates a culture where employees are empowered to take charge of their professional growth and development.

With more than 50 years of experience in electrical engineering, Jim Sanford is a well-respected leader in his field and within York’s engineering community. His humility — and his sense of humor — belies a professional who has brought out the gifts and talents of Paragon’s employees. “I really gave people only two rules: You can’t quit, and there can’t be any other rules.”

“I learned from working for Jim that there isn’t a cookie-cutter way of doing something. He has a great way of teaching people and letting them make a project their own,”

Principal-Electrical Engineering Pete Beddia adds.

“Jim taught me the value of humility. I learned that I was good with people and business, and Jim never forced me to fit into a particular mold,”

Principal-CEO Vaughn Silar Jr. says.

“We find different niches for our employees, and we encourage them to develop what they’re good at and go for continuing education. Mentorship just happens naturally here.”

“I’d be remiss not to mention Karl Diehl. He passed away 10 years ago, leaving telecom to Vaughn and me, but he also played a pivotal role in giving me the knowledge I’ve used to get where I am today,”

says Telecom Manager and Technical Designer Leslie A. Friedman.

“Everyone is a mentor because everyone has a different strength and skill set that allows the company to excel. Every employee offers his or her unique experience and expertise to guide and develop other staff.”

says Chief Operations Officer Pete Shovlin.
