Connect, Create, Contribute: Practitioners of Community Building

Yoga: The definition of the word itself communicates the act of joining together or uniting. At its core, Evolution Power Yoga creates community — a community of people who share space and the practice together. That community also extends to the people and places beyond the studio walls.

“Yoga in the Barn” at Wyndridge Farm in Dallastown is one of several community-based activities Evolution hosts within the cities its studios serve. At Wyndridge, participants take part in an hour Vinyasa Power flow class in the event barn on the Wyndridge property and enjoy crafty beverages and extraordinary dining at the Wyndridge Farm Restaurant.

Stefanie Kosakoski, Evolution’s brand manager, affirms Evolution’s commitment to building positive relationships and connections. “It begins with yourself on your mat through your personal practice and extends to others in the Evolution community and the outside community. It’s a ripple effect of empowerment and ways of being that strengthen and raise a community to a higher level.”

Stephanie Ellis, 500-RYT instructor at Evolution Power Yoga – York, agrees. Last year, she taught Evolution’s summer yoga series at Wyndridge and values building positive relationships and connections through yoga.

“Because the class is suited for all levels of experience — from regular yogi to new beginner — it’s an activity that appeals to a wide audience,” she says. “What I appreciate about yoga in the community is the accessibility. For our regular practitioners, it’s a fun way to take their practice outside of the studio and into a different setting. For the students who are new to yoga, these community events can be a less intimidating way of trying something new.”

“We encourage people to celebrate life when they visit Wyndridge Farm,” says Wyndridge’s corporate sales manager Molly Blymire. “We love bringing people together for an occasion, and ‘Yoga in the Barn’ provides a great way of doing that. It builds awareness for both Evolution and Wyndridge … we enjoy helping to support businesses in our community.”

YRK PERSPECTIVES:

How is Evolution Power Yoga making a big impact with small businesses?

“Partnering gives us an opportunity to know our community better and build new connections with our neighbors on a deeper level. It exposes us to establishments and provides exposure for businesses by inviting our community into their spaces.”
